Victoria is home to many award-winning restaurants like Pagliacci’s, Il Terrazzo, Glo, Bin 4, etc., but the real stand outs in this town are the breakfast and brunch spots. You can find the most unique and delicious morning meals here in Victoria. From red velvet pancakes to the perfect eggs benny, it is a foodie’s paradise. Although we would love to gloat about all of the coveted spots, we don’t want to keep you here all day, so here are our top 5 favourite breakfast and brunch spots in Victoria, BC.
1) Blue Fox
Ah, the Blue Fox. With its quirky, colourful and cozy atmosphere, it’s no wonder why this is one of Victoria’s most raved about and most popular breakfast spots. Their reasonably-priced menu offers a variety of dishes including a smoked salmon omelet, banana cream griddle cakes and of course their classic eggs benny. Although it is not uncommon to wait in line for 45 minutes on the weekend, it is definitely worth the wait. To avoid the weekend lineup, we would recommend arriving just before they open at 8am! Enjoy!
2) John’s Place
If you’re looking for some good, authentic diner food, look no further. John’s Place has got it all: the story, the food and the atmosphere. John Cantin opened the restaurant in 1984 with the idea of serving diner style, real food and over 30 years later, the restaurant is still going strong. With all of the food made from scratch, such as their famous Belgian Waffle, tex mex favourites, and their eggs benedict made with their smooth, authentic, made with real butter hollandaise sauce, it’s hard to not call this a favourite.
Open every day of the year except for Christmas day, Spoons has become a crowd favourite. Their funky and unique diner décor paired with their large-portioned meals makes for a breakfast or brunch go-to. Spoons offers unique dishes such as their ‘James’ Breakfast Poutine’ that is made with to-die-for ingredients like bacon, carmelized onions, cheese curds, and chipotle hollandaise sauce. Their most unique offering, though, is ‘The Prusa’, which is an ever-changing dish where the kitchen whips up whatever they feel like. Are you willing to take the risk?
Mo:Le is a hip, all-day breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant located on Pandora Avenue. It’s known for being vegan and vegetarian-friendly, offering dishes like curry tofu scramble, a roasted veggie eggs benny and a yam omelette. Non vegan or vegetarian meals vary from their Chinatown Ciabatta to their free range chicken taco salad, although they state that ‘almost everything can be made vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free’. Like many other breakfast and brunch spots in Victoria, Mo:Le is no stranger to lineups on the weekends, but their affordable, high quality food is worth the extra wait. Also, be sure to try their pesto hashbrowns…Holy Mo:Le!
To finish off our list, the famous Jam! Jam is located in Old Town Victoria and offers homemade breakfast and brunch classics, with some modern twists. The restaurant’s funky and fun vibe compliments their menu which includes quirky items such as ‘green eggs and ham’, red velvet pancakes and chicken n’ waffles. Their friendly staff and yummy comfort-food keeps us coming back for more, even if we do have to wait outside in the rain. And believe us, the Charlie Bowl is worth it…
Happy breakfast-ing and brunch-ing!
